Certified Nurse Psychotherapist (CNP) or Certified Psychotherapist Nurse (CPN) are licensed regulated nurses, including: registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses(RPNs), nurse practitioners (NP), registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs), and license practical nurses (LPN's), who are registered and licensed to practice with their College of Nurses in Canada and in the United States of America.
The Certified Nurse Psychotherapist (CNPs) in addition to their nursing training, have obtained further education, training, practical skills and supervision in providing
professional counselling skills, and psychotherapy, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to treat clients, including individuals, couples and children.
CNP's - CPN's can independently perform the controlled act of psychotherapy without a doctor 's order.
Our goal is to provide nurses with the skills, knowledge, judgement and supervision to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy safely to individuals, couples, children and groups in private practice, the community, and in any mental health outpatient hospital settings.
Certified Nurse psychotherapist- CNP-CPN treat a number of mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, addictions, stress, work related stressors, and provide a neutral ground to
individuals, families, couples, and groups. Certified Nurse psychotherapist - CNP-CPN focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. This is achieve by providing a neutral safe space, listening to client's or patient's concerns, and customizing a treatment.
