Trauma Focus EMDR – Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing is a comprehensive psychotherapy that accelerates the treatment of a wide range of pathologies and self-esteem issues related to disturbing events and present life conditions. This interactional, standardized approach has been empirically tested in several randomized controlled studies with trauma patients, and many published case reports evaluating a considerable range of presenting complaints, including depression, anxiety, phobias, excessive grief, somatic conditions and addictions. EMDR therapy is guided by the Adaptive Information Processing model which addresses the unprocessed memories that appear to set the basis for a wide range of dysfunction. A number of neurophysiological studies have documented the rapid post treatment EMDR effects.
Course is offered Online, course duration is 6 months 450 hours, and Students will be expected to submit 10 case studies utilizing Trauma Focus EMDR techniques with real clients that they will obtain from their communities.
Course Objectives
Understand Trauma, Stress-Related Disorders, and Dissociative Disorders, integrating trauma focus EMDR therapy to promote healing
· Identify the role of Trauma and Stress-Related Disorders and Dissociative Disorders
· Describe some of the common symptoms displayed by people when they experience stress and Post traumatic stress disorder-PTSD
· Describe the fight-or-flight or freeze response of the autonomic nervous system when triggered by an acute stressor.
· Describe the hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal and its role in acute and chronic stress responses.
· Describe the cluster of symptoms associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and dissociative disorders and the evidence-based treatments of these disorders.
· Identify populations that are at greater risk of experiencing trauma and developing dissociative disorders and PTSD.
· Explain how traumatic brain injury (TBI) is frequently a co-occurring syndrome for those who experience a traumatic injury that leads to PTSD and how this can complicate treatment.
· Compare and contrast the differences between PTSD and acute stress disorder and dissociative disorders.
· Describe components of inter professional and intra professional teamwork and collaboration that facilitate safe and effective care for individuals with PTSD, other stress-related disorders, and dissociative disorders.
· Describe symptoms associated with secondary traumatic stress/compassion fatigue, why health care workers are especially at risk for developing these symptoms, and ways to mitigate its occurrence.
· Define Shapiro EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing basic principles, protocol, and procedures.
· Define and Identify Adaptive information Processing
· Components of EMDR Therapy and Basic Treatment effect
· Describe all components and how to conduct Phase one, Client History
· Identify Phase Two and Three Preparation and Assessment
· Define Phases Four to Seven Desensitization, installation, body scan, and closure
· Define Phase 8 Reevaluation and Use of EMDR therapy Standard three prong protocol
· Identify Standardized Protocol and procedures for special situation and select population
· Describe how to offer a cognitive interweave when the client’s reprocessing is block
